The Internet, What a Tool!

November 5, 2006

Gosh, what would we do in this day and age without the great virtual universe we call the internet? Some of our entire lives revolve around this newly found masterpiece, our jobs and our personal lives. Some use it for educational purposes, such as literature and art. Others use it for convienence, after all, this wonderful tool is at our very finger tips. If it weren’t for the internet, it is quite blatant that I wouldn’t be typing this, and you wouldn’t be reading it either.

But this innovative idea can be both a good thing, or a tragedy. Many people take it’s ease of use into their business lives, taking it for granted to find just what it is they’re looking for. Sadly, a lot of  people use it for other reasons.  Reasons such as stalking, tracing other’s daily lives, and more adult-oriented affairs.

Luckily that is not the edge of this vast entity. There are some well known sites, such as the famous search engines, and others entirely for one to sit down after a long hard day and catch a laugh. This brings me to the most random site out there: youtube. What would we do without it? After a harsh day at school or work, we find such enjoyment at searching for the tag lines, possibly such things as “Fat kid dancing” or “Elephant kissing a Turtle”. And what’s sad is that it’s all there!

The internet’s an amazing conception, and we couldn’t imagine today’s hectic, high-speed world without it. But some misuse it unfortunately. We must realize that such a great tool can lead to problems of its own.

That’s right, in my garage sits a bright yellow 2002 Volkswagen Beetle we like to call Skittles. It’s a color concept, meaning that it has a two-tone black/yellow leather interior. It’s also a turbo, giving it a sport-like thrill. This car truley is Farfanugen (fun to drive). Today we participated in a show and won 2nd place in our category. We are all very thrilled, and certainly had a fun day.

Today is somewhat of an important day for me. A year ago this date, a fellow school mate of mine passed away due to an injury after being hit by a car. I had known him for a few years, and never been able to cope with him. He was a class clown, a born-to-be commedian, but I just couldn’t stand his childish behavior.

I remember how much I used to hate him.

But then he was in his accident, and after his passing I suddenly realized how wrong it was to hate. I felt more guilt than one can imagine, because ever since I’d met him I’d wished for something to happen. Obviously I didn’t want him to die, but we all have those feelings of ‘man I wish he/she would…’. What made it worse was that his aunt was one of my teachers that year, and she’d already gone through so much before. It absolutely broke her heart, as it did everyone else that knew him.

Even me.

So, I know this perhaps means nothing to some of you, but I would just like everyone who reads this to take a moment in their day to stop and think about everyone in your life. Think about those who you love, and then think about those who you hate. Through this experience I have learned not to hate, but to try and get along with everyone.

Love Thy neighbor as Thy self…

Hey, how’s it going everyone? This is my first actual blog, and I’ve wanted one of these for a while. Now I’ve finally been pro-active enough to get one. Glad to be a part of WordPress.com, looks like they’ve got a cool site. To learn a little more about me, well, you’ve got some info there. I’m a huge Star Wars freak, but I have other interests as well. Expect more from me next time, after all this is my first post. Again, I’m happy to be here!
